The annual Boxing Day matches are finally upon us, and here we take a look at all of the enticing games taking place on the 26th December.
Tottenham vs Brighton
Brighton beat Tottenham 3-0 in the reverse fixture and Spurs will be wanting to get back at Brighton after what happened there. Both teams lost at the weekend and would like to avoid a Christmas slump in form. Tottenham are firm favourites here, and their players will want to bounce back after their poor performance against Chelsea.
Betting tip: Tottenham to win to nil at odds of 13/10.
Bournemouth vs Arsenal
This will be the first match of new manager Mikel Arteta, and only a win will do if he is to silence any critics of his appointment. Arsenal edged out Bournemouth at the Emirates earlier in the season with a David Luiz goal. A tight match could be on the cards here with one goal deciding it.
Betting tip: Arsenal to have a winning margin of one at odds of 12/5.
Sheffield United vs Watford
New manager Nigel Pearson and his Watford side triumphed against Manchester United at the weekend. Watford fans will be hoping their team will carry that form with them to the match against Sheffield United. Sheffield United are in great form this season and will see a game against the bottom team as a perfect opportunity to drift away from the relegation zone.
Betting tip: A draw at odds of 5/2.
Chelsea vs Southampton
Chelsea played their best match of the season away to Tottenham in their previous match and theoretically should have no problems in dispatching Southampton - a team near the bottom of the league. Chelsea won 1-4 at St Mary’s and a similar result is the most likely outcome here.
Betting tip: Chelsea to win by two or three goals at odds of 31/20.
Aston Villa vs Norwich City
Both Aston Villa and Norwich are in lousy form and find themselves inside the relegation zone. Villa thrashed Norwich 1-5 at Carrow Road. Can they beat them again? It should be much closer this time with Villa starting as slight favourites.
Betting tip: Aston Villa and over 2.5 goals in the match at 13/8.
Crystal Palace vs West Ham
A defeat for West Ham could spell the end of Manuel Pellegrini’s time in charge. West Ham are hovering above the relegation zone, but a win here will see them in a much better situation; such is the closeness of the teams at the bottom.
Betting tip: Crystal Palace and both teams to score at 3/1.
Everton vs Burnley
New Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti will take charge of his first match against Burnley. Interim manager Duncan Ferguson steadied the ship somewhat, but they are still in the thick of things at the foot of the table. With the money Everton have spent, they’d like an immediate surge up the table with Ancelotti. Burnley, as always, have been getting the necessary results this season, but Everton are slight favourites for this one as they are at Goodison Park.
Betting tip: Everton to win and both to score at 12/5.
Manchester United vs Newcastle
Both teams find themselves on 25 points at this stage of the season. Man United disastrously lost at 20th-placed Watford in their previous match while Newcastle toughed out a 1-0 victory at home to Crystal Palace. Manchester United are difficult to predict, seemingly being capable of both winning and losing against every team.
Betting tip: Manchester United to win by one exact goal at odds of 12/5.
Leicester vs Liverpool
The top two teams in the league so far this season face each other in the highlight of the Boxing Day matches. Liverpool got a last-minute winner against Leicester at Anfield, and an equally tight game here is expected. A Leicester win will make the title race a lot more interesting, but a loss for the Foxes would almost certainly see Liverpool run away with the Premier League crown.
Betting tip: Draw at 13/5
