Chelsea vs Tottenham
📅 Saturday 22nd February.
🕧 Kick-off: 12:30.
🏆 English Premier League.
📺 TV: BT Sport 1 (UK).
This weekend sees two vital matches in the battle for the Champions League spots as Chelsea are at home to their fellow London rivals Tottenham, and Leicester play Manchester City.
Chelsea blues
The Blues are not in good form; they’ve struggled since winning against Tottenham in December. Chelsea were six points ahead of Spurs after that match, and now they are only one ahead. A loss here will see Chelsea fans starting to question Frank Lampard as their manager. Chelsea are currently at 8/11 to defeat Tottenham again.
Striking shortage
Spurs have been steady rather than spectacular ever since Mourinho became manager. They are in fifth place at the moment and with Man City possibly being banned from the Champions League next season - fifth place will be enough to qualify for next season’s competition. They are still in this season’s tournament, but they lost 0-1 at home to Leipzig after an insipid display. It was a deserved loss, and it showed us how difficult it is to play without a striker. Harry Kane, their only true striker, is out injured and it is unknown when he’ll return. Spurs have only won one of their last thirty-three matches at Stamford Bridge; their previous win was quite recent though - a 1-3 win in 2018. You can get odds of 7/2 if you fancy Tottenham to win.
Match preview
Tottenham’s record against Chelsea won’t fill them with any joy although things have improved slightly in recent years. However, Spurs put in an abject display at home before Christmas, and anything like that again will produce a similar outcome. Being the home team, Chelsea will have more of the ball and have more attacking intent. They perfectly nullified Spurs in the reverse fixture and will be looking to do the same again. You can get odds of 15/2 for another 2-0 Chelsea triumph. Tottenham will find it difficult without strikers, and it’s up to Mourinho to get the best out of his team and hope that someone like Lucas Moura can temporarily fill that void.
Betting tip
Our betting tip is for Tottenham to grab a draw against Jose Mourinho’s old side at odds of 3/1.
Leicester vs Manchester City
📅 Saturday 22nd February.
🕔 Kick-off: 17:30.
🏆 English Premier League.
📺 TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League (UK).
Slow start to 2020
Leicester have stagnated since the turn of the year - winning just two matches out of six but still find themselves comfortably in third place. Leicester have the luxury of being able to focus 100% on this match, unlike their opponents, who have a crucial Champions League fixture on their minds.
Different priorities
Man City’s focus this season is the Champions League, and Pep Guardiola will likely rest a few players for their match against Real Madrid on Wednesday. They have very little to play for in the league as Champions League qualification is more or less secure and the title is out of their reach. Man City have the benefit of having top-quality squad players, and they’ll still have a strong team despite resting players. They beat Leicester 3-1 in their previous match, and you can get odds of 11/1 for them to win by the same score at the King Power stadium.
Match preview
It will be interesting to see how many players Pep Guardiola will rest for this match. If he fields his best team, then Man City will enter as slight favourites considering what happened during the previous game between the two sides. If Man City field a weakened side, then this match will be 50/50. Both sides like to attack, so expect a few goals in this encounter. The STS website has odds of 4/7 for both teams to score. In most games, Leicester are a team that dominate possession, but the Foxes will have to adapt in this match and accept that their opponents will be the ones with the majority of the ball. Before Brendan Rodgers became their manager; Leicester were a counter-attacking team and should have no problems going back to their old ways.
Betting tip
With Leicester being at home and Manchester City possibly resting a few players; our betting tip is a Leicester win at 10/3.
