UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying Group A.
England infighting
The build-up to this match has been all about the pre-match scrap between Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling and Liverpool defender Joe Gomez. Sterling reacted badly when meeting Gomez at the training camp because of the slight altercation between the pair during Liverpool’s win over Man City at the weekend. Although it appears the two have kissed and made up, England manager Gareth Southgate has dropped Sterling from the starting 11 for this match. England should seal qualification in what is their 1,000th ever football match; they will be playing against a poor Montenegro side. You can get odds of 1/16 for an England win.
On the decline
Montenegro were a difficult team to beat in previous campaigns and often came close to qualifying for major finals, but this year they have struggled badly. They have yet to win in this group and sit on three points alongside Bulgaria. Atletico Madrid defender Stevan Savic is Montenegro’s most well-known player, and he will have to put in one of his best displays to restrict the England attack from scoring. England are 13/8 to get under 2.5 goals.
Match preview and H2H
England comfortably won 1-5 in Podgorica and judging by the performances of both sides in this group; a similar score is most likely. England will have most of the attacks in this match with Montenegro trying to defend resolutely and hoping to grab a goal on the counter or via a set-piece. Harry Kane is the obvious dangerman for England; he will be hoping to add to his tally of 28 goals for the three lions. England sealed qualification for the 2014 World Cup with a 4-1 win at Wembley against the Montenegrins; they are currently 5/1 to do that again. Montenegro managed to get a surprise 0-0 draw during the first-ever match between the two in 2010. You can get odds of 12/1 at STS for another shock draw.
