Dates: Friday 24th January - Monday 27th January 2020
For the 4th round of the FA Cup, we’re previewing all the key games and potential upsets that could occur during the weekend.
Newcastle vs Oxford
This is a rematch of Oxford’s shock triumph in 2017. Newcastle were a Championship side back then, but it still came as a surprise for Oxford to get the win. Newcastle are a team famous for losing to sides in the lower leagues and they will be keen to avoid another upset loss here. Oxford are currently at 15/2 to defeat Newcastle again in the FA Cup.
Shrewsbury vs Liverpool (BBC One)
Shrewsbury, currently 16th place in League One, host the European Champions and Premier League Champions-in-waiting - Liverpool. The Shrews were involved in an FA Cup upset back in 2003, by beating fellow Scousers Everton. However, a win for Shrewsbury here will undoubtedly be up there when it comes to FA Cup shocks.
Brentford vs Leicester (BT Sport 1)
A tricky match for Leicester as their opponents are doing well in the Championship and this fixture could even be a Premier League match next year. Brentford have the best defence in the Championship, and if they sneak an early goal, Leicester will have problems breaking through the backline. Ollie Watkins is the top scorer in the Championship, and he is at 7/4 to score here.
Coventry vs Birmingham
This tie is quite a unique situation as Birmingham will play at their home stadium as the away team. They currently share St. Andrews with their opponents, as Coventry have problems with the running of the Ricoh Arena. Birmingham enter this match as favourites, and they are at 7/5 to advance.
West Ham vs West Brom
Former West Ham boss Slaven Bilic returns to his old ground, and he’d like nothing more than a victory against a team he played for and managed. West Brom are flying high in the Championship, and despite being in the league below West Ham, it wouldn’t come as a huge surprise to see the Baggies win. They are currently at 16/5 to win.
Hull vs Chelsea (BT Sport 1)
History is not on Hull’s side as they haven’t beaten Chelsea since the 1980s when both teams were in the old Division Two. Hull are 12th in the Championship and will need to play the match of their lives to make it to the next round.
Betting tip
There are a lot of matches that can go either way this weekend, and we’re tipping wins for Barnsley, Derby, Birmingham and Reading in a multiple bet at odds of 28/1.
