Tyson Fury takes on Deontay Wilder in a rematch for the WBC heavyweight title in Las Vegas.
First fight
The first fight between the two ended in a controversial draw. Most had Fury winning the contest by a few rounds at least. Wilder arguably only won the rounds in which he knocked Fury down. It was a dramatic fight as Fury was knocked down in the 12th round; only to rise suddenly at the count of nine. He even had the better of Wilder in the exchanges after the knockdown. Fury was also knocked down in the 9th round. Fury made Wilder miss a lot and dominated the fight despite the two knockdowns.
What has happened since the first fight?
Fury fought Tom Schwarz and Otto Wallin and got relatively easy decisions although he was cut badly against Wallin. Wilder has also fought twice. He knocked out Dominic Breazeale in the first round and in a more difficult bout - he also knocked out Luis Ortiz in another rematch. Wilder struggled in both fights with Ortiz before finally getting the knockout.
Fight preview
The fight will follow the same pattern as their first one. Fury is by far the better boxer and will win rounds, but as shown in his career so far - Wilder always lands his knockout punch. The main question being - will Wilder be able to knock Fury out? He is currently at 4/1 to win by knockout in Las Vegas. Fury just needs to avoid being knocked down or out by Wilder to win this one. Wilder caught up on the scorecards after his two knockdowns, and even then, was fortunate to come away with a draw.
Aftermath
A Fury win will see him have the bragging rights in this rivalry and he will unlikely face Wilder again if he wins by an easy decision. A Wilder win could see a trilogy, especially if it’s in controversial circumstances. Both fighters will want a fight against Anthony Joshua later in the year as he holds the other belts in the division. A loss for either boxer will still see them as contenders in the future, but it will be a long road back to the top if there’s a knockout.
