Liverpool’s perfect start
This weekend’s big Premier League clash sees undefeated Liverpool take on in-form and 2016 Premier League champions Leicester City. Liverpool have made a 100% start to the season winning all 7 of their matches so far and they’ll know from last season, they can’t afford to drop points at home if they are to usurp Manchester City as champions.
Cunning foxes
Leicester are certainly one of the trickier teams in the league and are the most likely candidate to break into the “top 6” of the Premier League. They have made a fine start under former Liverpool and Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers and will have to play even better than in any of their previous matches if they are to have a chance of getting a result at Anfield.
Injury update
Liverpool will still be without arguably their most important player in Alisson Becker who has been sidelined with a calf injury since the opening match of the season, 2nd choice keeper Adrian will continue in his place. Swiss international Xherdan Shaqiri and central defender Joel Matip are expected to miss out due to injuries. Leicester meanwhile, have no major injury or suspension concerns at the moment.
Liverpool v Leicester head-to-head
Liverpool have won 3 of the last 4 meetings between the two, whilst their previous meeting ended up being a draw. Leicester have not won at Anfield since the year 2000 and it seems unlikely that they will end their winless streak on Saturday. Currently, Liverpool are 9/20 to win. Leicester have the best defence in the league alongside Liverpool and they will have to be at the top of their game to frustrate the Liverpool forward line. Despite having the strongest defence in the league, Leicester will feel more optimistic about their chances after Liverpool’s midweek Champions League match against RB Salzburg where they conceded 3 goals and looked very vulnerable. The midfield pair of Youri Tielemans and James Maddison will be looking to exploit any weaknesses they can and cause problems to a potentially weakened Liverpool defence with the absence of Joel Matip. Jamie Vardy has an excellent record against Liverpool with 7 goals in 10 games against them and Liverpool will see him as Leicester’s main dangerman. He’s currently at 9/5 to score at any stage during the game.
Terrific trio
Liverpool have their forever reliable attacking trio of Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah to cause chaos among the Leicester defence and you’d fancy at least one of them to be on the scoresheet by the end of the day’s play. You can back Roberto Firmino to score on Saturday at 6/5.
Betting tip
In what could be a close contest between the 2 teams, Liverpool will be obvious favourites and will still be fully expected to edge out Leicester. Although, if Leicester end up snatching a draw, it won’t come as a huge shock. Expect it to be a tight Liverpool victory with both teams getting on the scoresheet. We’re tipping Liverpool to win and BTTS at odds of 6/4.
