We’re taking a look at the vital clash between Liverpool and Manchester City as the previous two league champions face off at Anfield!
Liverpool
Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Manchester City last season set them on their way to the league title as the challenge of their rivals faltered. Soon after, the Reds went from strength to strength. The circumstances are different this year, and the title race is much closer and Manchester City are looking to be the team to beat again this season. Liverpool are still in it, and a win here could rejuvenate their shaky defence of the title.
Liverpool are at odds of 2/1 to beat Man City.
Manchester City
After a poor start to the season, the Mancunians have regrouped and stormed to the top of the table; they currently find themselves the favourites for the title at 1/4. However, the other teams in the league are breathing down their necks, and a few bad results could see the other challengers overtake them, including this weekend’s opponents.
Match preview
It was a 1-1 draw when both sides met at the Etihad earlier in the season and expect a similar hard-fought match again this time around. After being undefeated at home in the league for over 3 years, Liverpool have suffered two shock 0-1 home losses on the bounce to Burnley and then Brighton on Wednesday evening. Manchester City are currently at 21/20 to make it three. Games between the pair are often exciting affairs and not as cagey compared to when other top teams play each other. As usual, Man City will look to starve Liverpool of any meaningful attacks by keeping them off the ball and tiring out the legs of the Liverpool players. City will have to stop Mo Salah from having an impact on this game. The Egyptian forward is in excellent form once again and is the Premier League’s top scorer. Salah is at 10/11 to score at any point during the match.
Injuries and suspensions
Liverpool: Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Diogo Jota, Naby Keita and Joel Matip.
Manchester City: Sergio Aguero, Nathan Ake and Kevin de Bruyne.
