The second match of the Premier League restart sees defending champions Manchester City host Arsenal.
Different priorities
Man City’s priorities lie in the Champions League as they have almost no chance of winning the league considering that they are so far behind Liverpool. There’s also a large gap between them and 5th, so they should easily secure a spot in next season’s Champions League if they are allowed to play in it. This doesn’t mean that they’ll take the game lightly though. They desperately need match sharpness, and there’ll be plenty of players wanting to establish themselves in the first team. City are at 4/11 to defeat Arsenal.
No European football?
Arsenal have had a dreadful season so far, their worst in well over 20 years. Luckily for them, a lot of other teams have been poor this season, and the Gunners still have an outside chance of gaining entry to next season’s Champions League. An unlikely win in this match will see them just five points behind fourth. The odds of an Arsenal win are currently 13/2.
Match preview
The H2H will be difficult to read if you’re an Arsenal fan. Man City have won the past six matches between the pair and it has been five years since Arsenal managed a Premier League win against City. However, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta knows all about Man City as he was Pep Guardiola’s assistant there for three years. Arteta’s inside knowledge could give his side an advantage going into this one. Despite this, Man City have by far the superior players and a more settled side. An Arsenal win will be a huge shock, but other teams have shown this season that Man City are far from invincible. Arsenal will be looking to keep Sergio Agüero quiet as he scored a hat-trick in the same fixture last season and he’s’ at 7/1 to score three or more again.
Injury news
Manchester City: n/a
