One of English football’s most heated rivalries takes place this weekend as Chelsea travel a short distance to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Tottenham resurgence
Tottenham have made a good start under new manager Jose Mourinho, and this will be his first match as Spurs manager against his former club Chelsea. In an unexpected appointment, nobody knew how things would pan out with Mourinho at Spurs, but until now, things have gone smoothly. Spurs fans will be hoping that things will continue this way and a win against London rivals Chelsea will certainly convert at least a few who are sceptical of Mourinho. They are currently at 11/8 to defeat their fellow London rivals.
Chelsea stalling
While Tottenham are in decent form, the same cannot be said for Chelsea. Their form has started to dip with four losses in the last five Premier League games. While there seems to be little cause for concern among the Chelsea fans, a heavy defeat here may put some pressure on manager Frank Lampard. You can back Chelsea to win at odds of 9/5 on the STS website. It is highly expected that Chelsea will attempt to make new signings in January after their transfer ban was reduced.
Match preview
Tottenham enter this match as slight favourites as they’re at home and in better form. This match is not only for bragging rights, but it appears likely that these two teams will be battling it out for that lucrative 4th-placed spot for next season’s Champions League. A close and tense match with one side prevailing by one goal is the most likely outcome. Chelsea have struggled against the “big” clubs this season, and they’d like to avoid the flat-track bully tag with a win here. Tottenham will have to keep Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham quiet if they are to win this one. He can’t stop scoring this season, and if you think he will score again, you can back him at 21/20 to score at any time during the match.
Injury news
Tottenham: Hugo Lloris and Erik Lamela.
Chelsea: Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
