Valencia take on Chelsea in a vital clash on matchday five in Group H of the Champions League.
Previous match
This is the reverse fixture of matchday one where Valencia surprisingly won 0-1 at Stamford Bridge in the first match of Manager Albert Celades. You can get odds of 23/10 for another Valencia win.
Chelsea
Chelsea have improved a lot since that game as they begin to gel under Manager Frank Lampard. However, they did narrowly lose to Man City at the weekend, but it’s unlikely that they will be too downhearted from that result and performance. Chelsea can go through with a two-goal win because of what would be a superior H2H record over Valencia. STS are offering odds of 24/5 for Chelsea to win by two exact goals.
Valencia
Valencia meanwhile, have been erratic in all competitions this season, despite the previously mentioned win at Stamford Bridge, they were comfortably beaten 0-3 at home to Ajax in the second match of the group stage and are still the only team to drop points against Lille in this group, a result that could come back to haunt them.
Match preview
The performances of both sides since the previous match make Chelsea the slight favourites heading into this one. Known as being a good defensive side under their former boss Marcelino, Los Che have been a bit leakier at the back this season. Anything could happen in this match since Valencia are so unpredictable, but considering the importance of the match, a close and cagey encounter is most likely.
Key players
Dani Parejo: Captain and Valencia’s top scorer in La Liga. Can the midfielder inspire his side to another victory over Chelsea?
Tammy Abraham: Prolific in the Premier League; this is the perfect time to establish himself in the Champions League with a goal in the biggest match of his career so far.
Injury news
Valencia:Cristiano Piccini, Goncalo Guedes, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Francis Coquelin, Denis Cheryshev and Mouctar Diakhaby.
Chelsea: Antonio Rudiger, Ross Barkley, Pedro and Marco van Ginkel
Betting tip
